    Member Spotlight: Mel

    Meet Charlestown’s Mel Andrews!

Have you always been involved in fitness or exercise?
Yes and no. I have never been able to stay committed and motivated. I’ve been overweight all my life and if I didn’t see results I’d give up.

    What have you done previously?
Aerobics years ago, prior to kids. In 2008/09 I joined a local ladies gym and had success but they closed down and I didn’t join anywhere else.

    What brought you to PowerCamp?
I was a new member at Planet Fitness in 2015 and notices went up for the 8 week challenge. With the encouragement of Trish I decided to give it a go. Best thing I could have done – addictive!

Did you have a goal when you first started PowerCamp?
Yes, I was doing Weight Watchers and had plateaued. I still had nearly 20kgs to lose. I had great success with the challenge, I decided to leave Weight Watchers and continue PowerCamp, as I couldn’t afford to do both.

    Have you reached your goal?
Yes, I reached my goal in December and I have definitely become fitter and stronger. Lost a total of 38.8kg. Since starting PowerCamp 19.7kg and 73.8cm. Always room to improve though, I am looking forward to continuing to get fitter and stronger.

Has PowerCamp helped you achieve your goal?
It’s an all round great workout – strength, cardio and core. Trainers Vicki and Pete are absolutely fantastic! If you are just starting out with little or no fitness they will mix it up to your level. It is always different so it doesn’t get boring. In over 12 months, I’m still going 5-6 times a week, I have never had the same workout twice!

What would you say to someone thinking of trying PowerCamp?
Definitely give it a go, it’s hard but if you want results you won’t get them doing anything easy. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I’d be addicted to PowerCamp – but I am, I love it!

Biggest obstacles you have had to overcome on your fitness journey?
Staying motivated when results were slow and lack of confidence to exercise in front of people. I am so much stronger in my mind and body. My confidence has increased, everyday life is so much easier!

Do you have sources if inspiration? If so, what are they?
Vicki, Pete and my fellow PowerCampers inspire me everyday and I thank them sincerely – they are an awesome bunch of people. My sons have been fantastic, telling me how proud they are and this certainly inspires me to continue to get fitter and stronger.
